Bottled Birds

I know I included Bottled Birds in our Mother's Day gift guide, but I thought they deserved a full post. Bottled Birds, are the creation of artist Sandra Outland. I actually first saw these works of art several years ago at Curiosities in Dallas. It was my good fortune a few weeks ago to have Sandra and her husband, Breck, come in my shop while in town on vacation. One thing led to another and now we have the privilege of carrying her treasures at Sprout.

These wonderful creations combine some of my favorite things (cue The Sound of Music song)—nature and vintage pieces along with a literary twist. Each vintage bottle is lined with an original drawing on glassine paper. The bottles are then filled with various found objects—many from nature—and then topped off with vintage buttons or glass marbles. The pieces are cleverly named with words typed on small slips of paper. For more information on Sandra and her process, see the article written about her in The Dallas Morning News and to shop for her pieces, go to our online store or stop by and see them for yourself.
