Vintage Botanical Charts

With the beginning of wedding season and the antiques fair in Round Top, I've been a bit remiss at posting for the last few weeks. A post from the Marburger show is in the works, but meanwhile here is a sneak peek at what's new in the shop. These German botanical charts were among my favorite finds. Designed in the mid century by Jung-Koch-Quentell, these paper on linen designs make wonderful wall hangings outside of the classroom as well. While currently gracing the walls at the shop, both are available from SproutVintage.

Map Paintings by Rachel Austin

Greenwood by Rachel Austin

I first came across the work of artist Rachel Austin several years ago in a shop in downtown Austin, Texas. I can't remember the shop, but her paintings have remained a favorite—especially her map paintings. With these, she takes vintage maps and uses them as the basis for paintings which are often inspired by nature. I'm beyond thrilled to now have them available at Sprout and she has even made some specific to our area using maps of Fredericksburg and Lake Travis.

Fredericksburg by Rachel Austin

Lake Travis by Rachel AustinOther paintings feature maps from Mission Bay, Battery Park in New York City and Vancouver Island.

Vancouver Island by Rachel Austin

While I first heard of Rachel in Austin, she actually lives and works in Portland, Oregon, along with her husband and daughter. You can keep up with her work through her blog, paper & planes, or stop by to see the collection we now have at Sprout. Notecard sets of both her map and oil paintings are also available.

Paint by Numbers

My friend, Sarah, has an amazing paint by number collection—we're talking a living room with four walls covered from floor to ceiling. Well, she recently downsized and I was the benefactor of part of her collection which is now available in the online shop. Take a look at these vintage pieces of Americana.

Ceramics by Ildi

For a splash of Spring, check out these charming ceramic pieces we just got in the shop. A new twist on the classic doily, these items are handmade in the Netherlands by Ildi. The heart-shaped ornament can be hung in a window, while the flower shaped dish makes a nice ring holder or soap dish. Both designs come in Carribean Blue and Sunset Red (shown) as well as Forest Green and Canary Yellow.
